From a 2013 (14? Can't remember. Either way the rims are newer than that, the originals got damaged) Fusion. That's not a shadow, that's the clearcoat worn off.

I remember some other oppo having issues with the ‘chrome’ finish on his black wheels peeling like MAD and got at least 2 replacement sets.

I think they were under recall for that.

There is a recall on those wheels now. Ask me how I know

Yeah, that's pretty much what's happening here. I'd suggest trying to get them replaced but frankly I don't care, not mine. Besides I know they're just going to get trashed. It's a company vehicle that just changed hands and the guy who has it now isn't really what you'd call gentle with cars.

I should think so. Aren't they a premium rim?

How do you know

13’s and 14’s both have that issue and it appears it’s only on the black wheels. The silver ones of the same design have no problems that I know of.

I wonder what wheel cleaner has been used on these? A lot of wheel cleaners are highly acidic. I use P21s because it’s not.

It's a company car, and as I am very well aquainted with those at this company (family business of sorts—cousins) I can confidently say that no wheel cleaner has ever been within spitting distance of these rims.

Funny story do you know what the upcharge was to get these sweet 18’s vs the stock 17’s? $100 bucks. That’s right $25 bucks per wheel. a total no brainer.

Wow, I'd have expected more.

My Fusion, which my Dad drives now, has those 18” wheels, its a 2013 with 54k miles and they look brand new still. Weird.

Apparently it was only the black rims affected.

Now you know why they were only $25 a wheel. lol

Meh. They are replacing them for free. The car other than the wheel finish has been completely flawless. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned. Never needed warranty for anything(except the wheels).

They peel no matter what. This was mine at only 6000 miles using nothing but soap and water.

It only ever affected the black finish which was sort of a black chrome finish. The recall replacements will be gloss black no more chrome finish which I prefer.
